Waiver Wire Tuesday: All Hope Abandon Ye Who Enter Here

I miss Gregg Easterbrook and ESPN Page 2.

Gregg Easterbrook used to write a column for ESPN’s Page 2, when that was a thing, and a glorious thing it was, and he’d have ‘the game on reply in hell’. We finally saw one of those this season, as the Broncos/9ers game can’t end 11-10. It must continue! Jimmy G to Aiyuk was the only offensive tuddy of the game, and the entire state of Colorado is still waiting for Russ to cook.

It’s just been ugly. I mean, really, who can you trust? The Dolphins and the Eagles sit atop their respective conferences as the remaining undefeated teams. Every other team has been exposed or won games 11-10 and inspire no confidence…except for maybe the Jacksonville Jaguars.

We’re for real in the upside down.

That said, while there were again a plentiful of injuries this week to consider, there weren’t many to offensive skill players. And there certainly weren’t many shining stars. Maybe you had Mac Jones or Sterling Shepard, but were you starting them? Otherwise the biggest loss was probably at running back, the thinnest position.

Which makes this Waiver Wire Tuesday a tad scarce or maybe a little repetitive.

Here We Go!

Only players owned in less than 50% of Yahoo! leagues make the list.

QBs

Jared Goff — 45% owned

Hey Girl, watch my passes. They’re what boyfriend material is made of.

There’s little to say here. Goff isn’t flashy, but he’s surrounded by weapons and not being asked to do a whole lot. With players like Amon-Ra St. Brown, DJ Chark, and TJ Hockenson, as well as backs like Swift and Williams, Goff could very well have some breakout weeks that challenge for top QB, but really, what you get from Goff is a solid floor. So, depending on the make-up of your team, you might rather take a guy that’s going to get you 16 every week with the occasional 20 then the other guys on this list.

Ryan Tannehill — 16% owned

I hate that I have him on this list. I should take him off now, but I’m not. The reality is, Tannehill should continue to be serviceable going forward and has a higher floor than Goff. The main difference is that his pointage can also be a tad mercurial, but he’s already put up his 2 point game for the season in Week Two. So, having avoided that dud, you should be set for a floor with a couple ‘wow’ games from Tannehill as well.

If nothing else, if you’re sitting there after picking up Jimmy G thinking that’s not the solution…it may be the guy in Tennessee, or…

Zach Wilson — 6% owned

Wilson is happy to be back in the game.

Sometimes they come back.

Wilson makes his 2022 season debut in Week 4. Do you start him? Not unless you’re desperate. But he’s definitely worth a bench stash after seeing how Flacco did in that same offense. If Wilson really is the Franchise QB everyone is making him out to be and not the miss I’m seeing him as, then he should totally blossom with a receiver corps that Aaron Rodgers would give his last 4 high profile romances for. Elijah Moore, Corey Davis, Garrett Wilson with Tyler Conklin at TE might be the best set of 4 in the NFL.

For real. Give me another grouping. Steelers are very close. Eagles maybe?

But I still think the Jets are going to be looking to the draft for a new QB in a year or two, so the safest if you have to in this scarce week of waiver wire options, is probably still Goff.

RBs

Khalil Herbert — 50% owned (on the margin)

Ready to run the rock since the Bears don’t throw it.

I almost put him on the list the last two weeks, but the only thing I believed in for the Bears offense was David Montgomery and the running game, so while Herbert looked good, it was really a question of if he’d ever get enough production as that Chicago offense looks pitiful otherwise.

Seriously. Through 3 games, Justin Fields has thrown the ball only 45, with only 23 completions, 2 touchdowns, and 4 INTS!!! Albeit, they’re 2-1…but still, no thanks to Fields.

But with Montgomery out, Herbert took it as his turn to shine, and shine he did. I’m not sure how much play Herbert gets when Montgomery gets back, but there’s talks of putting Montgomery on at least the short-term IR. If that’s the case, and Herbert’s success continues, the gang over here at TK would hope they’d find a way to still utilize him.

J. D. McKissic — 26% owned

Nothing flashy here. But you can read last week. McKissic is just a good bench stash on a Commanders team that could be playing for a playoff position the way this season has gone so far.

Zack Moss — 12% owned

There was a time when Moss was supposed to be the guy in Buffalo, but now he sits in a crowded backfield with both Singletary and Dalvin Cook’s little brother.

Still, there was a time when Moss was supposed to be the guy, but injuries and the emergence of Josh Allen as the real RB1 for the team have slowed that roll.

Yet, there was a time, so he’s now an interesting bench stash.

WRs

Michael Gallup — 36% owned

The savior of the Cowboys and your fantasy team!

Though Cooper Rush has seemed to make it less of an issue, the early complaint about the Cowboys was the lack of weapons at wide receiver. One of those missing weapons was Michael Gallup to start the season.

It’s unknown how fast Gallup will get back into a rhythm of catching balls, but if you need a wideout, he’s certainly one to stash on your bench, especially considering that Dallas is probably going to be in quite a few shootouts as the season goes on.

Isaiah McKenzie — 42% owned

During the preseason in the midst of fantasy draft week, my friend Frantz kept asking me about McKenzie, but I shrugged him off. I mean, it makes sense that the WR2/3 for the high scoring Bills could be a place to mine some fantasy gold, but I was too stuck on Diggs and Gabe Davis to see the light that was McKenzie.

If he’s available still in your league, he’s worth at least a bench stash if not a consideration for a Flex spot going forward.

And now I have to go tell Frantz he was right.

Romeo Doubs — 27% owned

Romeo, me thinks we found true love!

Hey, look, a wide receiver stepped up for Aaron Rodgers and the Packers. Is it going to last? Well, Doubs was on TK’s list of potential late round steals in the fantasy draft, so we’ve had our eye on him.

It seems it just took him 3 weeks to officially catch on. Here’s hoping that wasn’t just a flash in the pan, and if it wasn’t, you should roster Doubs immediately.

TEs

Tyler Conklin — 22% owned

Conklin is probably the only legit TE worth a waiver wire pick-up this week, and yet he’s still a major question mark now that there’s going to be a QB change from Flacco to Wilson.

Yes, we always say that a young QBs best friend is his TE, but Wilson has bucked the trend of young QBs in his few starts to date. In addition, Conklin is part of that pretty beefy receiver corps mentioned above, so there’s no guarantee that he’ll continue to see the value he’s shown in the first three weeks.

But if he does, having a spot on your roster should be a no-brainer.

Will Dissly — 1% owned

At only 1% owned, I can almost guarantee Dissly will be there for you.

Look, at this point, we’re throwing darts at the scarcest position in fantasy football this season. Dissly appears to be the preferred Tight End of Geno Smith over Noah Fant…so, whatever that’s worth. Really, there isn’t much here. Logan Thomas? Maybe. Robert Tonyan? Which week?

So this week, you get Dissly.

And I’m out. I’ve got my own destroyed fantasy team to try to figure out. Somehow I lost with Herbert, Dalvin Cook, Aaron Jones, Courtland Sutton, and Terry McLaurin, so you can tell I’ve been losing sleep.
